Bozüyük is a district in the south of Bilecik province, founded on the road that has linked İstanbul with the interior of Anatolia throughout history. In the Ottoman period it served as a staging post on campaigns to the east, and the settlement took its present shape in the 16th century with the building of the Kasım Paşa Complex.
During the years of the War of Independence the area was the scene of the First and Second Battles of İnönü; the Metristepe Victory Monument and the İnönü Martyrs' Cemetery carry the memory of that time.
Today Bozüyük is one of the centres where the industrial production of Bilecik is concentrated, and it is known above all for its ceramics sector. Its position on the Ankara-İstanbul high-speed railway gives the district a considerable advantage in transport.
